Wait, What? Did a Prominent Retired U.S. Military General Actually Say Americans Shouldn’t be Allowed to Carry Guns? (Hint: YEP!)

I’m going to start this post off by quoting the oath every member of the Army must take.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

That’s pretty straightforward. The oath taken is an oath to defend the Constitution. Period.

Retired Army Lieutenant General Russell Honore’ already failed his oath when he gave orders to illegally disarm a massive number of Americans during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Apparently his desire to see Americans disarmed didn’t end in New Orleans. No, the General wants all Americans stripped of their ability to carry firearms in public.

I kid you not.

Retired Army Lieutenant General Russell Honore’ is best known for commanding Joint Task Force Katrina and coordinating the hurricane relief effort in the Gulf Coast. Of course part of that effort included disarming the victims of Hurricane Katrina, so it should come as no surprise that he is advocating a national push to take guns out of the hands of civilians.

Honore’ gave an interview with Gannett Louisiana in which he expressed his belief that Americans should not be allowed to carry guns under any circumstance.

“As a country we’re in a state of denial because we’ve confused the right to bear arms with the right to carry arms all the time anywhere or anyplace you want. We have to have a different kind of conversation in America and be prepared to speak about the politically unspeakable,” said Honore’.

He goes on to say:

“The best place for weapons when you’re not in the field is to be locked up in the garrison. Our biggest problem before Desert Storm was [soldiers] accidentally firing their weapons, and they’re trained. I’ve been around guns all my life, but when I was growing up they were locked in the cabinet unless you needed them for hunting,” he said.

Indeed, someone here is confused about the 2nd Amendment. That individual had extraordinary power within the U.S. military and that is an incredibly dangerous reality.
