STUPIDITY: San Francisco Considers Proposal Requiring Firearm Dealers to Videotape All Firearm and Ammo Sales

San Francisco’s idiot city Supervisor Mark Farrell has just introduced a proposal Tuesday that would require all firearm dealers within the city limits to videotape firearm and ammunition sales, as well as provide the records to the San Francisco police department.

The proposal which will be up for vote by the city Board of Supervisors this fall is not only absolutely ridiculous but literally targets the only firearm dealer in town.

Even if the measure passes, right now it would only affect one business: the city’s lone gun store, High Bridge Arms. But any incoming stores also would have to abide by the change. Steven Alcairo, High Bridge’s general manager, called the proposal problematic.

“It’s a very intrusive law that will accomplish absolutely nothing,” he told KTVU. “As of right now I would refuse that, unless they brought subpoena.”

Alcairo added that his store already uses cameras.

The National Rifle Association backed Alcairo’s comments, reportedly releasing a statement saying the bill would prevent “law-abiding citizens…[from] exercising their constitutional right to self-protection.”

Farrell has defended his position, and told KTVU the law was good no matter how many gun stores are in town.

“It certainly applies to the gun store that exists today,” he said. “But we have heard of additional stores over time trying to come into the city. … To me, this is no-brainer legislation.”

Well… Farrell is sort of right in a way about this being no-brainer legislation, seeing as it is legislation that comes from a legislature with no brain.
