BREAKING: Maine Throws out Requirement for Concealed Carry Permit, Now Allows Constitutional Carry Statewide!

Most states oppose the 2nd Amendment as it is written. Yes, even “conservative” red states. The 2nd Amendment doesn’t say anything about getting “permission” from government to carry a firearm underneath your clothing. In fact, the 2nd Amendment says the exact opposite. The amendment is clear. You have a right to carry arms and that right shall not be infringed.

But yes, a vast majority of states infringe on that right by requiring you to ask for permission and then pay for permission before being “allowed” to carry a firearm concealed from public view. The handful of states who do not infringe on the right are known as “constitutional carry” states.

And the constitutional carry just got a new member. Via WMTW.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed a bill that will allow residents to carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit.

Maine will become the sixth state in the country with such a policy when the law goes into effect 90 days after lawmakers adjourn later this month.

Supporters of the bill signed Wednesday say permits are a burden on responsible gun owners and don’t prevent bad people from carrying firearms.

But critics say it’s essential to ensure the public’s safety. While background checks are required by federal law when someone purchases a gun at a licensed gun dealer, they aren’t required for private sales in Maine.

The bill deeply divided Maine’s law enforcement community. Maine State Police supported it, but many local law enforcement agencies opposed it.

Bravo, Maine. Bravo.
