There were no calls for solidarity, no press conferences, no statements from the White House, no race hustlers to be seen. But Chicago saw mass shootings throughout the weekend.
In fact, of the 62 people shot in Chicago over the weekend, 32 of them were shot in just 8 hours. Let me repeat… 32 people were shot in just 8 hours in Chicago. A total of 62 were shot over 84 hours.
Shootings over the July 4th holiday weekend left 10 people dead and 52 others wounded.
A 7-year-old boy shot in the chest during an attack aimed at his father was among those killed.
The boy died during a 9-hour stretch in which 32 of the weekend’s 62 gunshot victims were wounded. Five of those people died after being shot and the other 27 were wounded between about 9:20 p.m. Saturday and 4:45 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
Shootings last year, over an 84-hour period, left 82 people shot, 16 fatally. Five of those shot during that period were wounded by police. This year’s violence happened over the same period of time – Thursday afternoon into early Monday morning.
The city had a violent period similar to Saturday’s stretch last year – in which 30 people were wounded over 30 hours.
What flag can be banned to stop this from happening? The Chicago flag, perhaps? Or maybe Chicago should pass strict gun control regulations?
Oh wait…
